Membership Covenant

Our Membership Covenant is the commitment that our members make to one another as part of this church. It is a summary of the commands of the New Testament that explain how we are to live before God, and love one another.

Whereas the Triune God has offered salvation to lost sinners through the death and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ, receivable upon a faith commitment in the deity of the Lord Jesus, and the sufficiency of His death and resurrection--

We, the undersigned individuals, affirming that we have been saved by said faith, and having attested said faith publicly through obedience to baptism, do hereby covenant with one another and before God, that we will constitute Redeemer Bible Church and will conduct ourselves corporately, and individually, based on the following Biblical principles:

We will seek to, by the grace and guidance of God, live lives of holiness, striving to yield to the Holy Spirit and war against personal sin. (Luke 6:46, Romans 6:13, 13:12-13, 1 Corinthians 10:8, 2 Corinthians 7:1, Galatians 5:16, 2 Timothy 2:19)

We will, after sinning, confess our sin to God and when necessary other believers, repent, and seek to put our sin to death. (Romans 6:12-13, 8:13, Colossians 3:5, James 5:16, 1 John 1:6-2:1)

We will regularly participate in the life of the church by attending services and taking communion. (Acts 2:42-47, 1 Corinthians 11:33, Hebrews 10:23-25)

We will use our spiritual gifts for the edification of the body. (Romans 12:6-8, 1 Corinthians 12:4-11, 1 Peter 4:10-11, Ephesians 4:11-13)

We will pray for one another. (Ephesians 6:18, Philippians 4:6, 1 Thessalonians 5:16, 1 Timothy 2:1, Hebrews 4:16, James 5:16)

We will work together for the continuation of a faithful witness for Christ and will contribute our time and treasure cheerfully and regularly to the support of the Lord’s ministry, the expenses of the church, the relief of the poor, and the spread of the Gospel through all nations. (1 Corinthians 9:3-14, 16:1-4, 2 Corinthians 8-9, Galatians 6:6-10, Philippians 1:5, 4:14-19, 1 Timothy 5:17-18, Titus 3:12-14, Hebrews 6:10)

We will do good to one another out of a sincere Christian love for our brothers and sisters, and provoke each other to love and good works. (Galatians 6:10, 1 Thessalonians 5:11, Titus 3:14, Hebrews 10:24, 1 John 3:18, 4:7)

We will serve one another and show each other hospitality. (Galatians 5:13, 1 Peter 4:9)

We will speak the truth to one another in love. (Ephesians 4:25, Colossians 3:9)

We will bear one another’s burdens. (Galatians 6:2)

We will defer to one another, and show respect for each other’s preferences in non-essential matters of practice - not imposing legalism on a brother’s freedom, nor stumbling a brother’s conscience. (Romans 12:10, 14:1-13, 1 Peter 5:5)

We reject all factiousness and divisiveness and will earnestly strive for true peace and unity with all other members. (Mark 9:50, John 6:43, Romans 12:16, 15:5, 1 Corinthians 1:10, Galatians 5:15, 5:26, Ephesians 4:1-3, Titus 3:10-11, James 4:11, 5:9)

We will attempt to resolve problems with one another in a Biblical manner, seeking to forgive one another, foregoing litigation and seeking remedies within the congregation, or if necessary, through outside Christian conciliation. (Matthew 5:23-24, 18:15-17, 1 Corinthians 6:1-8, Ephesians 4:32, Colossians 3:13, 1 Thessalonians 5:15)

We will pray for and respect the Elders of the Church, and submit to the decisions of the Elders of the Church that comport with the Scriptures. (Acts 17:11, 1 Corinthians 4:1, 1 Thessalonians 5:12-13,25, Hebrews 13:17)

Members of at least eighteen years of age covenant that we will regularly attend Members’ Meetings, and give careful, prayerful attention to conduct any matters that require the assent of the Members of the Church.

Those who serve as Elders acknowledge that the Lord Jesus Christ will require an accounting of our service and we therefore additionally covenant to provide good governance in keeping with the Scriptures, that we will rightly divide the Word of Truth, that we will protect the Lord’s flock, that we will give careful, Scriptural, and prayerful oversight to all matters brought before us, setting an example to the Members in fulfilling our responsibilities, and lovingly shepherding the Members towards spiritual maturity. (Matthew 7:15, Acts 15:6, 20:28-31, Galatians 6:1, Philippians 3:17, Colossians 1:28, 1 Timothy 4:16, 2 Timothy 2:15, 3:16-17, 4:1-5,12, Titus 1:5-2:1,7-8, James 5:14, 1 Peter 5:1-4, 1 John 4:1-3)

May the Father, Son and Holy Spirit help us to keep this Covenant and in so doing to bring glory to Him as we expectantly await the appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.
